What Is the Net Worth of Sergio Pérez?

The net worth of Sergio Pérez, a Mexican racing driver, stands at $50 million. Also known as “Checo,” he has accrued this wealth by racing for Sauber, McLaren, Force India, Racing Point, and most recently, Red Bull Racing in Formula One.

Early Life

Sergio Michel “Checo” Pérez Mendoza was born on January 26, 1990, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. His father, Antonio, was a racer who later became the manager for Indycar and sportscar driver Adrián Fernández. At the young age of six, Sergio began karting. His competitive debut was impressive, as he secured four victories in his first year in the junior category. In 1997, he entered the karting Youth Class, making a mark as the youngest participant by clinching a victory, achieving five podium finishes, and ending up fourth in the championship. By the age of 14, Pérez advanced to single-seater cars, competing in the US-based Skip Barber National Championship, sponsored by Mexican business tycoon Carlos Slim’s Escuderia Telmex.

Early Career

Sergio Pérez made the move to Europe in 2005 to participate in Formula BMW, spending four months living in a restaurant that belonged to his team principal. At 17, he set up camp in Oxford to launch a two-year campaign in British Formula 3. In 2007, Pérez triumphed by winning the National Class (for older chassis), followed by a fourth-place finish in the International Class in 2008. He graduated to the Formula 1 feeder series GP2 through the GP2 Asia Series where he celebrated a lights-to-flag victory in his first race in Bahrain. During his second GP2 season, Sergio scored wins at Monaco, Silverstone, Hockenheim, Spa-Francorchamps, and Abu Dhabi, eventually finishing as the runner-up to Pastor Maldonado.

Formula One

In 2013, “The Mexican Wunderkind” joined McLaren, but unfortunately did not secure any podium finishes, leading the team to replace him with Kevin Magnussen. The following year, Force India signed Pérez with a contract worth $16.5 million, where he remained until the team faced administration in 2018, later reforming as Racing Point for the 2019 season. In 2019, Racing Point extended Sergio’s contract for another three years. However, it was announced in 2020 that he would leave the team after the season, his position being taken by four-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel.

At the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, Pérez celebrated his first Formula One Grand Prix victory, breaking the record for the longest wait for a win after 190 starts. He secured his first Formula One pole position at the 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, setting a new record for most races before achieving a first pole at 215.

In 2021, Pérez joined Red Bull Racing, and shortly following his triumph in Monaco in May, it was confirmed he would remain with the team through the 2024 season.

Pérez’s helmet design, inspired by the Mexican flag, changes every season.
