His life took a significant turn following the tragic loss of his father, Melvin Combs, a former associate of Frank Lucas, a convicted drug dealer. Melvin’s untimely demise when Sean was just three led the family to relocate to Mount Vernon, New York.
This transition marked a turning point in Sean’s life, as he bid farewell to his old neighborhood, a community where opportunities were scarce.
In a familiar narrative, boys often leave school to join gangs. Sean broke this cycle, graduating from the prestigious Mount Saint Michael Academy in his new neighborhood. Later, he pursued a business degree at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
During his time at Howard, Combs secured an unpaid internship at Uptown Records in New York City, facilitated by rapper Heavy D, an acquaintance from Mount Vernon.
