Jamie Foxx is an American actor, producer, singer, writer, and comedian who has a net worth of $170 million. Jamie Foxx is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after and highly-paid actors. His talent and charisma caught the attention of TV producers, leading to his first major role on the sketch comedy series “In Living Color” in 1991. From there, he went on to star in his own sitcom, “The Jamie Foxx Show,” from 1996 to 2001.

Foxx’s breakthrough film role came in 1999 when he starred in the Oliver Stone-directed film “Any Given Sunday” alongside Al Pacino and Cameron Diaz. Early Life

Jamie Foxx was born Eric Marlon Bishop on December 13, 1967, in Terrell, Texas. Shortly after he was born, Foxx was adopted and raised by his grandparents, Esther Marie and Mark Talley. His birth parents were not part of his upbringing, and he had little to no contact with them growing up. Despite a very strict Baptist upbringing, Jamie credits his grandmother’s influence on his life for his career success. He began playing piano at age five and was already popular for telling creative jokes to his class in elementary school. Foxx received stellar grades, played basketball, and was the quarterback for the football team at Terrell High School. He got a scholarship to United States International University and studied musical and performing art composition.

Comedy Career

Foxx started performing stand-up comedy in 1989, and within two years, he became a cast member of the hit sketch comedy show “In Living Color,” where he remained for its last three seasons. After its end, Foxx was given his own show, “The Jamie Foxx Show,” which aired 100 episodes from 1996 until 2001 and was nominated for several Kid’s Choice and NAACP Image Awards. Jamie won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 1998. He has released the stand-up specials “Straight from the Foxxhole,” “Unleashed,” and “I Might Need Security” on DVD.

Film Career

Foxx’s first film appearance was in the 1992 comedy “Toys.” Other films that Jamie appeared in during this time included “The Great White Hype” and “Any Given Sunday,” which earned Foxx his first award nominations for his film work.

He was further nominated for his roles in “Ali” (2001, in which he starred opposite Will Smith), “Breakin’ All the Rules,” and “Collateral,” which grossed $217.7 million worldwide. For his work on “Collateral” alongside Tom Cruise, Foxx was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

In 2004, Jamie portrayed Ray Charles in the biopic “Ray.” For his performance in the titular role, Foxx won 19 awards, including the Academy Award and BAFTA Award for Best Actor. In 2005, he joined the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Other notable films Jamie has worked on include “Stealth,” “Jarhead,” “Miami Vice,” the award-winning film adaptation of the stage show “Dreamgirls,” the biopic “The Soloist,” “Law Abiding Citizen,” “Valentine’s Day,” “I’m Still Here,” “Due Date,” “Horrible Bosses,” “Django Unchained,” “White House Down,” “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” “Horrible Bosses 2,” “Annie,” “Sleepless,” and “Baby Driver.” In September 2007, Jamie was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which he describes as one of the most surreal days of his life.

Music Career

An award-winning recording artist, Foxx has released five studio albums. His first album, 1994’s “Peep This,” was a commercial flop. However, his second album “Unpredictable” (2005), was his most successful with a double-platinum certification from the RIAA. The album also reached #1 on both the “Billboard” 200 and U.S. R&B charts and #9 on the UK albums chart. To date, the album has sold 1.98 million copies in the U.S. His hit singles include “Unpredictable” (featuring Ludacris), “Blame It” (featuring T-Pain), and “Fall for Your Type” (featuring Drake). Foxx was also featured on the #1 singles “Slow Jamz” by Twista (featuring Kanye West) and “Gold Digger” by Kanye West.

Foxx is known for his crossover collaborations. Jamie was featured on the 2005 Ludacris and Field Mob single “Georgia,” sampling the Ray Charles classic “Georgia on My Mind.”

A longtime country music fan, he recorded “She Goes All the Way” with Rascall Flats in 2007. He also performed the George Strait song “You Look So Good in Love” at the Artist of the Decade All-Star Concert. When Foxx hosted the 2009 BET Awards in 2009, he opened with a rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.”

Foxx became the host and executive producer of the Fox game show “Beat Shazam” on May 25, 2017. On January 31, 2020, the show was renewed for a fourth season.

Personal Life

Jamie is known for keeping his private life under wraps. He has two daughters, Corinne (b.1994) and Anelise (b.2009). His daughter Corinne is a model and an actress and has appeared on “Beat Shazam” as a co-host with Foxx.

Foxx and Katie Holmes were in a long-term relationship following her split from Tom Cruise in 2012, but it was reported that their relationship had ended in August 2019.

Foxx was involved in an incident in April 2003 in New Orleans where he and his sister were escorted out of Harrah’s Casino in New Orleans, Louisiana. Employees of the casino claimed they had failed to show identification when they entered. Jamie was charged with battery on police officers and resisting arrest, trespassing, and disturbing the peace. He pled no contest to disturbing the peace in exchange for getting the other charges dropped. He was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine.

On January 18, 2016, Foxx rescued a drunk driver from a burning vehicle that had crashed outside his home. The driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when the truck flew off the road into a ditch and rolled over multiple times.

Health Issues

In early April 2023, Jamie suffered a medical emergency in Atlanta while filming a movie with Cameron Diaz. He remained hospitalized for nearly a month when his family requested that people “Pray for Jamie.” His daughter Corinne announced that her father had suffered from a “medical complication,” but otherwise, it was not clear what had happened.

Real Estate

In 1997, Jamie paid $930,000 for a 5,400-square-foot home in Tarzana, California. He sold this house in June 2008 for $2.23 million.

In March 2007, Jamie paid $10.5 million for a 40+ acre estate in Hidden Valley, California. The sprawling rural estate features a 17,000-square-foot home with ten bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, as well as several other living structures. There is an Olympic-sized pool and a professional-sized basketball court with stadium seating. It’s difficult to estimate the value of Jamie’s estate, which technically has a Westlake Village address, but it is almost certainly worth north of $20 million.

In January 2016, Jamie pulled a man from a car that had crashed near his Westlake estate moments before the car was engulfed in flames. The 32-year-old driver was trapped inside and almost certainly would have been killed if it weren’t for Jamie’s heroic actions. Foxx heard the crash from his car, called 911, then ran to the accident. He used a pair of scissors to cut the driver from his seatbelt and pulled him from the car. Moments later, the truck exploded.
