Early Life

Born on August 22, 1970, in Rome, Italy, Giada Pamela De Benedetti, later known as Giada De Laurentiis, is the eldest child of actress Veronica De Laurentiis and actor/producer Alex De Benedetti. She has three younger siblings: a sister, Eloisa, and two brothers, Igor and Dino Alexander II. Giada spent much of her childhood in the kitchen, including at her grandfather Dino De Laurentiis’ restaurant, DDL Foodshow. After her parents’ divorce, her mother relocated her and her siblings to Southern California, adopting the De Laurentiis surname. Giada attended Marymount High School in Los Angeles and went on to graduate from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1996 with a degree in social anthropology.

Television Career

Following her college graduation, De Laurentiis studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France, with hopes of becoming a pastry chef. Returning to Los Angeles, she worked in local restaurants and as a food stylist. Her talents caught the attention of the Food Network when she styled a piece in “Food & Wine” magazine in 2002.

The Food Network offered her the chance to host her show, leading to the debut of “Everyday Italian” in 2003. Despite initial backlash, De Laurentiis continued to host successful shows like “Behind the Bash” and “Giada’s Weekend Getaways.” She has received multiple Daytime Emmy Awards for her work.
