Early Life

Tekashi69, originally Daniel Hernandez, was born on May 8, 1996, in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York. His mother hails from Mexico, and his fatherHaving roots in Puerto Rico, he didn’t encounter his father until he turned nine, initially believing his father had passed away. In reality, Daniel Sr., a heroin addict, was incarcerated. Later, Daniel Sr. alleged that Daniel Jr.’s mother’s family obstructed their meeting, even going to the extent of tearing up the letters he sent from prison.

The family faced financial hardships, particularly after Daniel’s stepfather was fatally shot on their doorstep in 2010 when Daniel was 14. This event led to severe mental distress, prompting Daniel to seek therapy for PTSD and depression. Around this period, he began displaying behavioral issues at school, resulting in his expulsion in 8th grade. Subsequently, he took up a job at a grocery store to assist his family financially.

Rap Career

In 2015, he pleaded guilty to a felony count of using a child in a sexual performance, leading to three years of probation and a requirement not to post explicit content online or obtain his GED.
