DeVito’s fame further grew with lead roles in films like “Throw Momma from the Train,” “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Terms of Endearment,” and “Twins.” He has been part of the FX/FXX series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” since 2006.

Early Life

Born Daniel Michael DeVito Jr. on November 17, 1944, in Neptune Township, New Jersey, he has a genetic disorder affecting bone growth, resulting in his 4 feet, 10-inch stature. Raised in Asbury Park, New Jersey, DeVito is of Italian descent and was brought up in the Catholic faith.

Success in Acting

DeVito found success with his role in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and later on the TV series “Taxi,” which earned him a Golden Globe and an Emmy. He continued his acting journey with notable films like “Terms of Endearment,” “Romancing the Stone,” and “Batman Returns.” His works in both comic and dramatic roles have garnered critical and commercial acclaim.

Outside of acting, DeVito ventured into directing, making his directorial debut with “The Ratings Game” in 1984. He established Jersey Films, a production company behind several successful films, including “Man on the Moon” and “Pulp Fiction.” His contributions to the entertainment industry have earned him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Personal Life

DeVito’s unique 4-foot-10 height is attributed to a rare genetic disorder known as multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, affecting his bone growth.

Concerning bone growth, Danny’s acquaintance with actress Rhea Perlman occurred on January 17, 1971, during her visit to watch a friend’s performance in the play “The Shrinking Bride,” a play in which DeVito also participated. Within two weeks, the pair had moved in together, eventually tying the knot on January 28, 1982, and raising three children. Despite a separation in October 2012 after 30 years of marriage, a reconciliation ensued in March 2013. They amicably separated once more in March 2017, expressing no intention of divorcing. Their collaborations include the show “Taxi” and the movie “Matilda.”

In 2023, during a visit to his old haunt, Danny generously donated $500,000 to the Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

Real Estate

Danny and Rhea enjoyed a residence in a 14,579-square-foot Beverly Hills abode, which they acquired in 1994. The property was sold in April 2015 for $24 million after being quietly listed for over $30 million a couple of years earlier.

The couple still co-own a dwelling in Malibu’s Point Dume enclave and put their Mt. Washington perch in Los Angeles on the market for $1.55 million in 2022.
